About Jan Pollers
Following his studies at NARAFI/INRACI in Brussels, Jan started out as a food photographer, together with his brother Joris. Virtually every star-adorned chef in Belgium was the subject of his lens, from the young Peter Goosens, Piet Huysentruyt, the Boxy brothers and many others, resulting in prestigious books like De Cirkel van de Smaak (The Taste Circle) and Feestmeesters (Masters of the Banquet). Thereafter followed books on architecture and interior design, such as “Riant Wonen” (Exquisite Living ). For these reasons, Jan remains in high demand for architectural and gastronomy-related projects.
Due to a military service obligation, the two brothers parted ways. During that period, Jan chose resolutely for the advertising industry. His photo shoots of people quickly revealed a tremendous capacity for empathy. Jan believes in the power of real interiors and real people. He thus prefers to work on location and is pleased to play a role in the selection of models. This personalized approach, combined with his high degree of professionalism, is the reason that he has earned a high level of trust from many large international players such as Philips Lighting, for which he has served for years as the permanent house photographer for all of the company’s international lifestyle images. Other examples include Habanos (the largest Cuban cigar manufacturer), the Holiday Inn, Ramada and Radisson hotel chains, Borealis, Siemens, Neckermann and Johnson Control. His work for P&G pet care provided an opportunity to gain expertise in the photographing of animals, one of the most difficult disciplines. In Belgium he works or has worked for the campaigns of Carrefour, Ikea, the Flanders Bureau of Tourism, imec, "Goed Gevoel” magazine, Bancontact, KBC Bolero, Mensura, Telenet, Lapperre, ZEB, Vitalness, and many other brands.
Jan has a small set-up in Malaga, Spain, which allows him to organise outdoor shoots in a fast and cost-efficient manner in early spring or late fall. While he very deliberately works “alone”, he is supported by a strong team of casting, styling, make-up, retouching and set specialists.
When he is not busy with photography, or scouting for people or locations, you will find him bicycling through Europe or walking in the picturesque forests around Leuven with his dog. Jan and his wife, Maria Capparos Moreno, have two children, Alba and Jorge.
